Voice of America Joins Aid & Development Africa Summit 2017

The Aid and International Development Forum (AIDF) is set to hold its 2nd annual Aid & Development Africa Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, on 28th February - 1st March 2017.

The inaugural Aid & Development Africa Summit was held at the UNCC in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and attracted more than 300 participants representing NGOs, UN agencies, Red Cross, donors, governments and the private sector. As Timket A. Biresaw, Deputy Country Director, International Life Line Fund stated “the Aid & Development Africa Summit provides a platform for private-public-civil society partnership”.

The 2017 Summit, which will take place at Nairobi’s Safari Park Hotel, will bring together high level stakeholders in Africa’s aid and development sector including representatives of national governments, UN agencies, intergovernmental organizations, humanitarian organizations, development banks, regional and international NGOs as well private sector representatives and investors.

The 2-day Summit will feature debates around lessons learned from the recent drought crisis in southern and Eastern Africa as well as discuss the latest trends in aid procurement, policy development as well as latest technological innovations in emergency response, financing of development and aid programming in the region. Furthermore, the Summit will discuss best practices in the supplier management including addressing supply chain challenges, getting aid to areas of reduced infrastructure or conflict, the latest ICT developments and data strategy required to support health resilience and emergency communication as well as the successful implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa.

The 2nd Annual Aid & Development Africa Summit will also explore building a culture of resilience and strengthening disaster preparedness, including initiatives and partnerships to improve health, livelihoods and safety of displaced people as well as building long lasting partnerships through structured networking opportunities, knowledge exchange and debates that influence regional humanitarian and development goals.

Among those speaking at the Summit are David Clapp, Coordinator, Sub-Regional Platform for East and Southern Africa, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); Prabhat Garg, Practice Lead & Senior Director in charge of Program Procurements, Millennium Challenge Corporation and Miriam Maluwa, Country Director, Ethiopia, UNAIDS. Other speakers are Rishi Ramrakha, Head of Zone Logistics Unit (Africa) International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies; Barlin H. Ali, Program Coordinator, Center for International Disaster Information (CIDI), USAID as well as Nenad Bojovic, Director, Network Operations Center, International Rescue Committee, among others.

John Lippman, Deputy for Language Programming, Voice of America will moderate a panel discussing latest mobile innovations to support community resilience. Dr Sharad Sapra, Director of Global Innovation Centre, UNICEF and Mathias Lardinois, Program Coordinator, Belgian Development Agency (BTC) will discuss the impact of mobile devices on development work and how to utilising mobile technology to better reach and engage communities. The panel will present case studies on mNutrition and mAgri programmes in Sub-Saharan East Africa as well as best practice and lessons learned for scaling mobile-based initiatives.

The Aid & Development Africa Summit 2017 unites regional and global expertise to offer a unique opportunity for cross-sector engagement between UN and government agencies, NGOs, donors and the private sector.
