I have worked in Ethiopia since 1997, currently with Save the Children International as Country Director, with USAID as Senior Policy Advisor from 2004-13 and before that as the Country Director of Save the Children UK. My involvement with Ethiopia goes back to before the 1984 famine, and I was involved in supporting cross border operations into the 'liberated zones' in Tigray and Eritrea with Oxfam Canada in the 1980's. I also spent five years as the Oxfam Country Director in Namibia (initially for Oxfam Canada, then the unified presence including GB, Belgium and Spain).

I have had two books on travel in Ethiopia published by Shama Books - 'Ethiopia: Off the Beaten Trail" and "Exploring Ethiopia", and published dozens of articles and papers on Ethiopia. 

I rejoined a much enlarged Save the Children that has amalgamated the work of seven Save the Childrens' in Ethiopia, with a diverse and interesting program and about 90 local partners and 2500 staff.  I formerly spent 9 years with USAID on policy issues and helped with strategic development of the country plan and sector area strategic plans. My interests include supporting children through impact assessment and knowledge and learning, resilience, humanitarian policy and response, health, nutrition, education, economic development, agriculture production and development, youth workforce development, food security and nutrition, pastoralism and on and on...
